The festival was instituted in 1950 and since then it’s still being organized on an exact same dates, from 10th of July to 25th of August. Today, the festival is the symbol of Dubrovnik – the most famous and the most attractive touristic destination on both Adriatic and Mediterranean coast.

Today, the festival is the symbol of Dubrovnik – the most famous and the most attractive touristic destination on both Adriatic and Mediterranean coast. During the Summer Festival the city walls become the most beautiful stage in the open, and each year host some of the most famous literary, visual, and performing artist from all around the world. More than 2000 artists from the 30 countries participated in last, 63rd, Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

Some famous performers and bands worth mentioning are: quartet Los Rameros, mega popular violinist Nigel Kennedy, Juilliard Ensemble, Monserrat Caballe...Each year the festival begins in front of the Sponze palace on the most famous Dubrovnik street Stradun, and ends with the lowering of the “Libertas” banner on the Orlando’s pole.
