It is surrounded by Slovenia and Hungary to the north, Serbia to the east, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro to the south and across the sea border with Italy. The land area is 56,542 km2 and the area of the territorial sea is 31,067 km2. Croatia has a population of 4.29 million – the capital is Zagreb.

Croatian Adriatic is for many Europeans the fastest way to open, clear and warm sea.
Croatian Adriatic coast is 5700 km long and is among the most rugged and most beautiful in Europe. Croatia with its 1185 islands, islets and reefs is rightly called the land of thousand islands.
Due to moderate climate Croatia is ideal for visiting throughout the year. The interior has a continental climate with average temperatures – January 0 to 3°C, August 19 to 24°C, and in coastal areas – along the Adriatic coast is Mediterranean climate (hot and dry summers and mild and rainy winters) with an average temperature of – January 6 to 11°C, August 21 to 27°C. The temperature of sea in winter is 12°C and in summer about 25°C. With more than 2,600 hours of sunshine a year, the Adriatic coast is one of the sunniest in the Mediterranean.
