Only three carnival groups with a bit more than a 100 participants performed then. The Rijeka Carneval is today one of the biggest and most recognizable in the world. It counts over more than 10,000 participants from countries all around the world. Every year more than 80,000 people from all over the world visit the Rijeka Carnival . The Rijeka Carnival consists of the following manifestations : carnival festivites, international carnival parades, the Rijeka Carnival queen pageant, the carnival ball which takes place every year in the governor's palace, carnival sports, concerts , exhibitions and carnival children's games.This year Rijeka celebrates the 30th anniversary international carnival. It began on january 17th 2013, and ended on the 13th February. Except live, you can follow the carnival on TV or by livestreaming it over the internet. The carnival is symbolized by raising the carnival flag, and the handing over of authority and city keys to Master Toni by the mayor which he preserves until the end of the carnival.
