The largest city on the Croatian coast, situated in central Dalmatia
in Split (Marjan) peninsula. It is one of the largest tourist, cultural,
sporting, scientific and economic centers of the region and beyond.
Split is the largest passenger port in the Adriatic, and with the ferry
and fast catamaran lines is connected to all of the islands of central
Dalmatia (Hvar, Brač, Šolta, Korčula, Vis, Lastovo and Italy in Ancona,
Pescara and Greece - Igoumenitsa).
Split has a variety of
cultural and historical monuments, museums, green parks, theaters, and
concert halls, promenades, squares... Among the sites you definitely
need to visit we point out Diocletian's Palace from the 4th century
(under UNESCO protection since 1979.), which is unique in the world,
numerous palaces, Riva, an iron gate and statue of Grgur Ninski (Gregory
of Nin).
The city also offers a rich cultural life and
entertainment. Of the many exhibitions, concerts, street theater,
festival we highlight Split Summer (1945. to 2009.) - art festival that
builds it's reputation (national and international) since the second
half of 20th century. Split offers nightlife for all ages and tastes.
There are many superb discos, cafes and bars open until the early
morning hours. Guests who want peace and relaxation will find their
paradise in the surrounding towns and quiet bays.
