Once a little fishermen's village, nowadays it represents the most desirable family destination in the Kvarner area. Thanks to its unique seaside promenade, the famous Lungomare, it takes about 20 minutes to reach Opatija or the old City of Lovran, situated on its east and west end respectively. Along this path you may find countless coves and natural beaches, very suitable for those seeking after a moment of solitude. On the other hand, families with children and all who prefer company, will enjoy the huge public beach, which has been proudly waving its blue flag for years. Everyone can find what he or she likes best: tiny pebble, concrete, sand or grass. As far as play and entertainment are concerned, both adults and children will not get bored: water slides, merry-go-rounds, swings, canoes or pedalos never fail to delight the little ones, while the others can have fun playing volley-ball in the sand or water polo in the sea. For Summer adventurers, high-adrenaline attractions in the form of jet-skiing and parasailing are simply unforgettable. After such activities you will surely need some rest, enjoying your favourite drink, coffee or ice cream, followed by a tasty local specialty at one of the nearby restaurants. And of course, to experience all that and much more, you have no need to leave the beach, for there you may find everything one can possibly wish. If you would like to ''rest'' for awhile from sea and bathing, in just a half an hour by car you reach a totally different world of a fairytale nature park located on the Mount Učka. Here you may fly paragliders, ride mountain bikes on beautiful paths, go hiking or simply stroll around. Ičići represents a blend of mountains and sea, two diametrally opposite worlds meeting in one place.
Where to spend your holidays? A difficult question, but with a simple answer: Croatia, the Bay of Kvarner, the Opatija (Abbazia) Riviera, Ičići, the Buila Apartments. Why Croatia? It is very rare to find such a scenery and so many good people coexisting in such a small area. Why the Bay of Kvarner? Starting your trip from cities like Budapest, Bratislava, Prague, Vienna, Munich, Milan or Ljubljana, and thanks to the modern motor road net, you can reach it after just a few hours. No borders to be passed, for Croatia is a member of the European Union. And that's not all. If you choose to spend your vacations in the Kvarner area, different and unique destinations lie only a couple of hours away by car or by bus: the world-known Plitvice Lakes, the wonderful Brijuni Islands, the pearl of the Adriatic – the Kornati Archipelago, the magic Istrian peninsula with the smallest town of the world, the ancient City of Pula with its famous Roman amphitheatre, the cities of Poreč and Rovinj, the islands of Krk, Cres and Lošinj, just to mention the most significant ones. But there's much, much more! Why the Opatija (Abbazia) Riviera? This question was first answered by the early tourist nomads, who arrived in this area almost 170 years ago, immediately recognizing all of its beauty and climatic benefits. They were soon followed by 19th century personalities. Among them, we can find the Emperor and King of Austria and Hungary Francis Joseph I, the King of Rumania Charles I, the German Kaiser William II, the Russian novelist Anton Pavlovich Chekhov and the poet Sergei Alexandrovich Yesenin, as well as the American actress Isadora Duncan. Thus, Opatija has become the pioneer of tourism in this part of Europe, proudly bearing her title as the Queen of the Croatian Tourism.
